Life can be difficult for home-based business owners when first beginning their quest to make money online. Information overload, overwhelming to-do lists and a lack of a firm concept for their own personal brand are just a few of the things that can cause runners to drop out of the race before they even get to finish their first lap.
“Traditional” entrepreneurs must rise to overcome challenges and be the leaders their companies need them to be to succeed. Social entrepreneurs must combine their entrepreneurial wit with a strong sense of purpose for their cause. Home-based entrepreneurs though, especially in this age of Web 2.0 & social media, face a unique set of challenges. With no support staff, sometimes even no support, period, home business owners must create their own optimism each and every day, ready to tackle whatever obstacles they might have thrown at them with a smile on their faces. Not only that, but they and they alone must figure out how to juggle developing their brand, relationships and paycheck all at the same time… no small feat!
Today, I wanted to share with you all a book (and an idea within that book) that really changed my life. You may think I’m exaggerating right now; I mean how many marketing books out there really change people’s lives? Well, the book changed my attitude, my attitude changed my approach, my approach changed my paycheck and all of these things together changed my life, so sit tight, LISTEN UP and watch this video…
.
…and there you go! Hope you guys enjoyed that! Anyone interested in checking out Purple Cow by Seth Godin can get it on Amazon for cheap here:
So, how bout it guys… Any input on the books? How were you purple today? How about your marketing? Your personal brand? Get back to me on this one; I’d love to hear from you!
Thank you for spending your time here today. I truly appreciate you, and I hope this post got you thinking!
Here’s To Knowing No Bounds,
PS Re-tweets, facebook mentions, diggs, stumbles… It all helps guys!

Hey Garrett!
Fun to learn more about you, buddy!
I ordered Crush It! and the 4-Hour
Work week at the same time too.
Great choices…
Being remarkable… hmmm I truly
feel it’s about putting others first.
If you can inspire them to do things
that they normally wouldn’t have done
you’re going to have raging fans.
Social media and blogging definitely
lend themselves to do that. Unfortunately
very few marketers get it. I see you do.
Talk soon,
Kary

Thanks for the kind words, Kary.
Yes, I do agree… Marketers (entrepreneurs, business owners, PEOPLE) who put others first and truly INSPIRE those around them are several shades purpler than the rest.

PS We gotta Skype soon… Need some counsel on my social media “VSSG” bootcamp… What’s “VSSG” you might ask? The answer awaits on Skype, lol!

Love the movie set there Garett! A bit like Oprah’s book club for network marketers?
I know “Personal Development For Smart People” – great reading and in a class of its own.
As far as being purple I just try to be who I am and help as many people as I can whenever I can.
Thanks for the thought provoking post!

Hey Garrett,
I would agree that differentiation is a key component to success in our industry. This means daring to be different with your blog, your content and your overall presence online.
Helping others and putting them first has basically become mandatory when implementing the principles of attraction marketing. We can almost assume this to be true of any successful entrepreneur on the web today.
The name of the game is VALUE and the more unique content you bring to the table that helps improve peoples lives, the more established your personal brand will become.
In addition, there are many shades of purple once you become a purple cow. Thanks for the share!

Awesome video Garrett
Love the intro! I also love the message here because I completely believe that just being who you are is remarkable all on its own.
I’ve never read the Purple Cow, but I think that I’ll go out and pick it up. I’m always on the lookout for a new great book so thanks for the awesome recommendation.

Being comfortable with who you are, in all your uniqueness, is awesome. I love that you can sit in your bathrobe in an oversized chair and share this highly valuable content.
Seth rocks… My mom owns a scrapbook store and built her store and the success she enjoyed based on that book. Also looking to do something different. Purple cows stand out. Black and white one’s do not.
Our brand can be as unique as our fingerprints… You may get to be known as the guy in the bathrobe wearing the pizza hat.
I haven’t read Crush it…it’s on my list. 4HWW, yeah, great, implement right away the email and phone strategies.
Looking forward to your next video Garrett. Great work, great value.
Your “e-mom”. I saw that… very funny buddy…. LOL!

Garrett,
Your video shines in that you’re truly yourself! And that makes you a pretty dark shade of a purple cow. Thinking outside of the box, being genuine and still having fun makes you stand out—big time!
My vote would be to start with Crush It.
Thanks for the Purple Cow review—a book I’ll have to get!

Garrett,
LOVE the Pizza Hat… One of my customers from my old restaurant bought me one of those hats because the restaurant was an Italian Steakhouse.

You have some great info in your post Garrett.
I’ll be honest and say the bathrobe doesn’t work for me. To be fair, I will explain a little as to why.
I think you have great personality and passion in your video however the bathrobe reminds me of the current dodgy work from home marketing industry that exists.
The industry I am referring to is the “work from home selling our products making thousands per week for less than 10 hours worked”.
I am a firm supporter of people working from home because it has major efficiency benefits. However it takes just as much work if not more than is required by those working for someone else.
I don’t believe you are in the category of “dodgy work from home industry” as your great content states otherwise. I just get the reminder of that industry from the bathrobe.
However, don’t ever change what you do because someone says they may not like it. Even though I say here that it doesn’t work for me, don’t change because someone tells you to. You are definitely on the right track about being yourself and keep at it.
In regards to the books, Gary Vaynerchuck is spreading the right social media messages missed by so many traditional marketers. Keeping it honest and not considering every social media post an opportunity to spam your business.
The 4 hour work week has some good points but many poor points in my opinion. The good points include the consideration of outsourcing for jobs that you don’t necessarily need to do yourself and helping people realize there is more options available to them than they think.
The poor points include limiting the time spent responding to emails and promoting the idea that you should only work a few hours per week to achieve what you want. If you run a business, customer service is the top priority. Putting customers on the back burner is a quick way to lose business. If you have so many emails that there isn’t enough time to respond, you should be making enough money to employ some help responding.
I enjoyed the video post Garrett. Keep up the great work!
